BLACKSBURG, Va. — Registration is open until Friday for the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc.'s fall meeting and tour on Nov. 9-10.
The meeting, held in conjunction with the Appalachian Lumbermen's Club, will take place at the Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and will include a reception and dinner on Nov. 9.
The keynote speaker for the event is Curt Hassler, a representative of BalkenTier, a consulting firm based in Morgantown, W.Va., that works for the Appalachian Hardwood Center at West Virginia University. His presentation will cover the results of the 2010 Appalachian Production Cost Survey that AHMI conducted earlier this year.
At 9 a.m. on Nov. 10, the group will visit Vaughan-Bassett Furniture's rough mill and bedroom production plant in Galax, Va. Participants will get to see the company's new Weinig rough end system as well as the adjoining production facilities that are making its new Appalachian Hardwood bedroom collection in solid oak and cherry.
Company officials have said that efficiencies created through the new rough end allow the company to produce this line at competitive price points.
Rooms at The Inn at Virginia Tech are available at an AHMI rate of $109 a night and may be reserved by calling (540) 231-8000.
For more information on the fall meeting, visit www.appalachianwood.org/meetings.htm or call the AHMI office at (336) 885-8315.
