LEPEL, chair
Design: Luca Nichetto
Casamania, 2012
Lepel is a collection of chairs and armchairs designed by Luca Nichetto for Casamania.
Lepel, in Afrikaans means spoon.
From the spoon, Lepel takes the concept of collecting and accommodating in a rigid structure, contents that are usually soft. In fact, from the form of the backrest you can guess the wrapping function that covers the seat, which, thanks to the light padding, it is the softest part.
The idea stems from the desire to create a design product which is also comfortable and of very high quality, acting on the production aspects in order to optimize production costs and packaging and transport spaces.
Lepel is conceived and designed from a single mould for the seat and the front legs and two different moulds for the backrest and rear legs of the chair and armchair.
So even during storage and transport, Lepel is stackable and can be packaged, significantly reducing the overall dimensions of more than sixty percent.
Lepel is therefore a result of the design research, which takes into account not only aesthetic, but bases its creative expression right on the needs - whether corporate or of design - to create a product with features adhering to production costs optimization and caring about respect for the environment.
