FIAM PRESENTS THE NEW HOME OFFICE PROJECT,THE LATEST EVOLUTION IN CURVED GLASS FURNITURE

A passion for glass, a culture of innovation, a philosophy of elegance

A passion for glass, a culture of innovation, a philosophy of elegance: at Milan Furniture Fair, Fiam adds yet another chapter to its long history, and amongst its novelties for 2010, it provides the world preview of its Home Office project.

An extraordinary evolution of Fiam’s culture of glass, Home Office incarnates a new concept of the “study” by rethinking the frontiers between domestic and professional space, between the rigidly defined time of work and the fluid time of private life.

Glass, the star of interior design, moves through every room in the home with a seamless elegance, and transfers the stylish details, comfortable atmosphere and personality of familiar living-spaces into the office area.

Home Office stands for an innovation that proceeds on both fronts, design and technology, thanks to Fiam’s ceaseless research into style, functionality and versatility.

Each component of the system also simultaneously retains its own specific identity, feeding free interpretation and personalisation: as a result, the items can be combined, mixed with the existing furniture, or re-located in different areas of the home.

On the stand designed by Rodolfo Dordoni the gaze is directed to the centre, discovering the finest achievement of Fiam glass enclosed in a special “display case”, which contains and exhibits it, underlining its precious nature.

Behind transparent walls, the Home Office project is treated as an avant-garde work of art, which opens a window onto the future to reveal the final frontier in glass.

The Luminare collection by Roberto Paoli, comprising desk, drawer unit and cabinet, is inspired by the same use of curved and broken lines.

Fulfilling the typical function of an office table with the added expressiveness of curved glass, the desk is transformed into an interior design object in its own right, giving beauty and distinction to the working environment through its utter transparency.

Compactness and elegance are the keynotes of the drawer unit, where the different glass finishes and the introduction of new materials, including leather, generate an infinite variety of compositional solutions. Finally, the collection is completed by the most refined of all office cabinet, consisting of a thin case of lacquered or smoked glass in two versions, open and with doors.

With its elegant balance of glass and metal, the Eiffel desk designed by Piero Lissoni interprets contemporary style in the minimalism of its forms and its versatility, which allow it to be personalised with a vast assortment of finishes and dimensions.

The Home Office version of Rialto marks a major milestone for Fiam and a real breakthrough in curved glass: thanks to the development of a new technology, the desk becomes a “made-to-measure” product with variable height, width and depth, treating glass like the fabric in a tailor’s shop.

A new interpretation for a historic icon: Danny Lane’s design gives us the new version of Atlas, a fascinating synthesis of art and design in a dual-purpose table, capable of creating striking effects in both living or office contexts.

Setsu & Shinobu Ito have taken their inspiration from Japanese culture for the Inori modular system. The name means “to pray” and every vertical element in the system is shaped like hands in the act of receiving, giving and thanking, as if enclosing and protecting the objects inside and forming an intimately sacred space. The modular concept allows the creation of an infinity of compositions with different functions: bookcase, display cabinet, cupboard and TV unit, in wall-mounted or free-standing versions.

As well as the Home Office project, there are also new products for 2010 for the home collection.

Arising from Fiam’s first collaboration with AquiliAlberg, Sigmy is an innovative side-table with strong visual impact. Its logo-like sign, derived from the letter “sigma” in the Greek alphabet, links graphics and design, embracing the glass’s lightness and evolving into a continuous, expressive graphic line.

Setsu & Shinobu Ito have produced another successful experiment with extending tables. Simplicity, sinuosity and naturalness are the inspiration for the Tribeca table, which emerges from the ground and grows upwards like a living being, evoking the energy of nature and mankind.

The coming-together of two ancestral elements, glass and fire, generates the spell of Venus, the latest creation by Vittorio Livi: symbol of vanity and irony, this exquisite mirror features a frame in silvered high-temperature fused glass with a furrowed texture that multiplies the light with a gem-like power.

The Mir Lamp is the new generation of the freestanding mirror created by Roberto Paoli, winner of the prestigious Good Design Award 2009. With a lighting system comprising two halogen lights inside the glass structure, the mirror is transformed into a standard lamp that projects the light upward.
