The huge population base provides a huge consumer market for the vigorous development of the smart home industry.

Recently, the seventh national census data was fully released.

  • Large population base = large market potential

The total population of our country has exceeded 1.4 billion people, and it continues to maintain its status as the world's most populous country with a low-speed growth trend. This shows that China is still the world's most potential consumer country. The huge population base provides a huge consumer market for the vigorous development of the smart home industry.

  • The eastern and southern regions are the main battlefields for smart homes

In terms of population distribution, it is further concentrated in economically developed regions and urban agglomerations. The proportion of the population in the eastern region rose to 39.93%, accounting for nearly 40%, indicating that Guangdong, Fujian, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong and other coastal developed provinces and cities are still the main battlefields for the future deployment of smart home brands.

  • Large number of households, large scale, high coverage

There are 494.16 million family households nationwide with a population of 129.281 million family households; 28.53 million collective households and a population of 118.97 million collective households. The average population of each household has dropped from 3.10 in 2010 to 2.62. The size of households has continued to shrink, and the increase in population mobility has confirmed that smart home products have received more and more attention and attention in the field of public safety; housing conditions have improved for young people after marriage living independently provides more opportunities for smart homes to cover increasingly segmented small and medium-sized households, and the coverage of smart home products and market growth rates have continued to increase.

  • Children and the elderly are in great need

The data shows that the two groups of children aged 0-14 and the elderly over 60 are on the rise. The population of 0-14 years old is 253.38 million people, accounting for 17.95%, and the total population is more than 500 million people (accounting for 36.65%); the population of 60 years old and above is 264.02 million people, accounting for 18.70%. (Among them, the population of 65 years and above is 190.64 million people, accounting for 13.50%;)

From the perspective of age composition, the proportion of children in our country has rebounded, and the adjustment of the birth policy has achieved positive results. At the same time, the aging of the population has further deepened.

The young population and the elderly rely more on smart home products with higher safety and convenience, such as smart door locks, which are the “entry” products of smart homes, and are also committed to becoming the home guardians of the elderly. The elderly completely put down the keys, and can better protect them every time they enter and leave the house.

Smart companion robots, smart cameras, smart phones and watches, and other smart devices that provide functions such as companionship, education, and secure communication, can just meet the needs of parents for children's enlightenment education, preschool education, and personal safety.

  • Improved population quality promotes consumption upgrade

Ning Jizhe, Director of the National Bureau of Statistics, analyzed that the continuous improvement of education status reflects the positive results of our country’s 10 years of vigorous development of higher education and the elimination of illiteracy among young and middle-aged people. The population with university education is 218 million and accepts higher education. The continuous expansion of the educated group and the continuous improvement of the quality of the population will be of great benefit to the promotion of smart homes into millions of households to clear away the barriers to non-economic factors such as cognition, education, and application.

  • Urbanization supports greater consumption

The urban and rural population accounted for 63.89% (the urban population exceeded 900 million people) and 36.11% (the rural population exceeded 500 million people). The urban population ratio increased by 14.21% within 10 years, and the urbanization construction made a historic breakthrough.

With the advent of the 5G era, people have higher requirements for a warm, comfortable, efficient and convenient life. The in-depth development of new industrialization, informatization and agricultural modernization has laid a good social foundation for the rapid development of the smart home industry. The middle class of more than 300 million people and the wealthy and affluent class of 5.6 million households support the consumption of smart home products in the middle and high-end consumption levels.

In the next five years, more than 50% of urban households in China will have smart housekeepers; the average number of smart home devices held by each household will exceed ten, and the market size will reach trillions.
