New Designers Part 1 award winners announced

On Thursday 27 June, New Designers Associate prizes were awarded to four of the best graduate designers exhibiting part in Part 1 of New Designers – the exhibition for emerging design, which features over 3000 graduate designers across two parts.

On Thursday 27 June, New Designers Associate prizes were awarded to four of the best graduate designers

exhibiting part in Part 1 of New Designers – the exhibition for emerging design, which features over

3000 graduate designers across two parts.

Director of New Designers Isobel Dennis says: "The Associate Prize programme is a very important part of

the show which is run in addition to the New Designers Awards. The prizes are presented on the public

opening days to further recognise the creative talents of existing graduates."

The Worshipful Company of Weavers Prize of £1000 was awarded to Lily Emma Tennant from Loughborough

University for her work Passmenterie Collection, which utilises the traditional skills of weaving to

produce woven trims. The judges said: “Lily’s collection of decorative narrow fabrics is innovative and

beautifully constructed. She has mastered many techniques which show outstanding creativity.”

The Clothworkers’ Company Prize of £1000 was awarded to Marie Stenton from University of Leeds for her

work The Sinner’s Prayer. She says: “Winning this award has been an unbelievable experience. I have

always dreamed of starting my own fashion label and this has really helped to make things happen. I could

not be more grateful for this amazing opportunity. Thank you to all the lovely judges from The

Clothworkers’ Company.”

The Contemporary Glass Society Prize of £250, a £100 voucher for Warm Glass, a photographic session with

Simon Bruntneil and a membership and promotion package, went to Juli Bolaños-Durman from Edinburgh

College of Art for her work Mix and Match Series.

The Christy’s Carpets Prize of £250 was given to Kim Norrie from Robert Gordon Gray’s School of Art for

her work Making Spaces in Association with Places. The judges said: “Kim oozes energy, enthusiasm and

passion – this is clearly evident in her work. Kim demonstrates her ability to translate development

concepts into final pieces – resulting in stunning fabrics."
