Japanese furniture chain Nitori Holdings has announced the acquisition of a high-end Japanese-style hostel in Otaru, Hokkaido: Ginrinsou.

The seller of this transaction is Tokyo Leisure Development Co.Ltd, which has been looking for buyers for Ginrinsou many years ago. It has been discussing with Nitori many times, but it was previously rejected by the latter on the grounds of “main business”. Nitori said that the reason for the acquisition of Ginrinsou is to better protect historic buildings.

The transaction will be completed on August 20th, when Nitori Public, a subsidiary of Nitori, will take over Ginrinsou and will be responsible for the operation of the hostel. The acquisition of Ginrinsou represents Nitori's first foray into the hospitality industry.

Founded in 1939, Ginrinsou's old and new buildings cover a total area of 3,000 square meters and have a total of 18 rooms, offering traditional Japanese cuisine, hot springs, French meals and more.
