Reverie, a producer of sleep systems and adjustable beds, has signed a lease for an 11,000-square-foot office space in this Detroit suburb as its new headquarters.

It plans to employ 40 people at the site over the next 24 months -- many of them new hires.

"Our company is going through a tremendous growth period, and Michigan was extremely attractive due to a favorable business climate as well as an incredibly skilled talent pool," said Reverie President and CEO Martin Rawls-Meehan.

"We view the Detroit area as a hotbed of technology and innovation and while we can benefit from that, we also want to play a part in the region's continued revitalization. Having grown up in Michigan, I have strong personal ties to the area and have already relocated to join my core team and assist in building a strong presence there," he said.

Reverie has been in Michigan since March of 2012, taking temporary space while selecting and renovating its new offices, which will serve as the company's flagship location for sales, marketing and research and development.

Modeled after the collaborative office space designs at companies like Google and Quicken Loans, Reverie's offices were designed to encourage creativity and communication through the use of open floor plans and common lounge and kitchen areas. Aiming to help employees enjoy their workplace environment, the company's new offices offer conveniences like an on-site gym as well as free food, drinks and popcorn machines, the company said.

"We wanted to build an office space that is more than functional - it's a collaborative and happy environment. Our valued employees are the key to our success and we're investing in them with the creation of a positive, open atmosphere. Evidence suggests that when employees enjoy their work and their workspace, that enjoyment feeds into motivation and eventually greater productivity. It's a win-win," added Rawls-Meehan.

The new space includes 2,000 square feet dedicated to research and development and another 2,000 square-feet dedicated to a call center to be staffed by up to 20 operators. The company has hired and will continue to look for product designers, engineers, Web designers and sales and marketing personnel, officials said.

The move will not affect staffing at Reverie's other facilities in Eden and Silver Creek, N.Y., officials said.
