Upcoming Furniture Market Has Huge Impact On Triad

High Point, NC -- Thousands of people from around the world will be arriving in the Triad this week. The fall Furniture Market starts in High Point on Saturday.
The President of the High Point Market Authority, Brian Casey, says the impact of this Furniture Market is huge for the community and the manufacturers who come to the area.
"It's a small town that transforms itself into an international market place over night," said Casey.
Creating thousands of temporary jobs and bringing one billion dollars into the Triad, the furniture market is a destination for manufacturers from all over the world.
"We've done two shows in New York," explained designer, Serge De Troyer. "But we've never actually exhibited in the High Point show here. So this is our first time."
De Troyer first visited the furniture market in April and knew he had to come back to show off his product.
"There was so many people here, it was amazing," De Troyer said. "The main hall was so busy. That's why my partner and I decided to come here and do the show."
De Troyer and other designers hope to sell their furniture to retailers around the world. But, the week of furniture browsing effects more than just manufacturers.
"This market is at the hub and really provides a great platform for us to leverage future economic development through the region," Casey said.
The 101 year-old event has become an integral part of the High Point community.
"Whether people realize it or not, it's part of our heritage," explained Casey. "And it really, truly, in many ways, touches the hearts and minds of people around the area, just because of the volume of activity going on here."
The Furniture Market will be held from Saturday until Thursday.
