Universal Furniture is launching Bellamy, a new youth furniture line, this week that is expected to ship later this summer and hit retail by mid-fall.
Bellamy is the company's seventh collection in its SmartStuff line. The girl's bedroom comes in a white finish and is priced within the same range as the current line.
This is the second time in two years the company has launched a youth group over the summer. Last year, it introduced the Paula Deen Kids line in early July and had it in production over the summer months as well.
Universal says the Bellamy line "has traditional European and American silhouettes and a touch of timeless Victorian elegance" and "embodies vintage simplicity." It includes five beds, along with chests, dressers, mirrors, a pair of desks and also a pair of seats, a Swivel Vanity Seat and a Chair with Storage Seat.
Other pieces include an armoire, a bookcase and an accent chair.
Universal's reps will receive marketing materials, including product photography, specs and pricing, to take with them on the road this week.
"Everything that is available to them at a High Point Market will be available to them July 8," said Kevin Miller, Universal's brands manager. "We are arming them with everything they need and they will be able to hit the road and make a presentation to their youth retailers and give them an opportunity to make a decision if it is right for their retail floor."
He said the company decided to repeat the summer launch due to the success with the Paula Deen Kids line last year.
"It placed very well as we went into premarket and market last September and October," he said.
Bellamy will go into production in the summer and ship in mid to late August, Miller said. This will allow it to hit retail floors right around the fall market.
Inventory will be available from the China warehouse first and available from the domestic warehouse following in order to support the ongoing rate of sale.
According to Universal, beds in the line include the Bellamy's Bed, with a graceful curved headboard and footboard, along with generous molding accented with ornately carved scroll detailing, and the Trellis Bed, with a pierced, laser-cut overlay in Daisy White with a subtle Antique Rose panel that reverses to French Grey peeking through.
Other beds include the metal Daydreamer's Daybed with an antique silver finish shaped in an upholstery fashion, a Jenny Lind-style Vintage Bunk Bed and a Reading Bed with a floral motif and egg-and-dart molding.
The Dressing Chest, which features a dropped-down antiqued mirrored glass surface and electrical outlet, has crystal hardware and includes four drawers and hidden storage. The Tall Chest features five drawers with key pulls flanked by antiqued mirrored glass panels. The Heirloom Chest boasts numbered medallions above the custom knobs on each of the eight drawers. Bellamy's Dresser and the Drawer Chest both feature drawer fronts adorned with oval molding, as well as shaped tops and aprons.
The Memoir Mirror features vintage silver scrolled metal accents, while the Venetian Mirror has an arched mirror framed by antiqued glass. Other mirrors include the Cheval Storage Mirror, which slides to reveal felt-lined storage, and the arched Vertical.
Antiqued mirrored glass panels and key-pull hardware distinguish the three-drawer Vintage Nightstand. The two-drawer nightstand, which includes an open shelf, is available in Daisy White, Antique Rose and French Grey with matching painted bail pulls.
The XOXO (Hugs and Kisses) Desk, with egg-and-dart carved edges, features a double pedestal base adorned with fretwork and a cutaway deck with two drawers. Available in Daisy White, Antique Rose or French Grey, the Journaling/Vanity Desk features decorative ribbon-like details and matching painted ormolu hardware supported by exaggerated cabriole legs. The upholstered Swivel Vanity Seat has a low, curved back and is trimmed in braid with decorative tacks. The Chair with Storage Seat has an open oval back, a lift-up storage seat and a tie-on cushion.
Other pieces include the Vintage Armoire, with a mirror front framed in antiqued mirrored glass and a lower drawer with crystal hardware; the Book Nook bookcase, with fretwork ends and removable partitions; and the perfectly scaled French Catch All Accent Chair with an upholstered seat and back, beautifully shaped arms and cabriole legs.
