An improving global economy, and an increasing demand for new product from both domestic and overseas buyers fueled record attendance at the most recent 3F Famous Furniture Fair here.

The March 16-20 event had a total of 119,769 visitors, up 1.6% from the 117,820 that attended in March 2012. Of that total, 51,216 were from outside China, nearly five times last year's 10,760 international buyers.

Show officials said total attendance and the number of first-day visitors set records at the 29th edition of the twice-a-year event, held each March and September.

"We believe the market is turning upward again," said Yin Chengzhi, president of the Dongguan Famous Furniture Assn., the organizer of 3F. "Many furniture dealers have held back their purchasing over the past year.... The accumulated buying power is released in this 3F, triggering a wave of swift order writing."

The show featured 915 exhibitors, many of which are from the Dongguan area. They showcased their latest designs in case goods and upholstery in 12 halls occupying roughly 2.8 million square feet at the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center in Houjie, a section of Dongguan.

Show officials said that furniture produced in Dongguan represents for about 60% of the total furniture made in China. That, they said, makes 3F an important venue for "quality export-ready products."

Officials said surveys indicate that exhibitor satisfaction with the quality of domestic and international buyers rose by 15% and 19% respectively. Some 65% of the exhibitors also indicated that they will continue to participate in the 30th 3F event, set for Sept. 5-9.

"We are happy to see more international buyers in our show," said Jacky Fang, show manager. "Over the past two years, we are increasing our promotional efforts in the emerging markets. On the other hand, we constantly adjust the product categories on the show to better meet the purchasing needs of international buyers."

He added that in the next few months, the show plans to improve its website, www.3f.net.cn, to help improve service to international buyers. More details about the event are available on that site.
