Wen warns of economic difficulties

Premier Wen Jiabao warned problems in the country's economic development

Premier Wen Jiabao warned problems in the country's economic development, though the economy has showed positive momentum, during his visit in Tianjin, a government statement said on Saturday.

The premier visited enterprises, research institutes and communities in Tianjin from Thursday to Friday on the sidelines of the fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum, the statement said.

"We should be confident of maintaining a favorable economic development as we have made progress. But we should be aware of difficulties and challenges," Wen said.

He pledged the government would closely follow the development of the economic situation, carefully adjust the policies and avoid complications.

The government would continue to invest in agriculture, rural development, the programs to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases emission as well as projects to boost innovation and improve people's livelihood, he said.

In addition, it would strictly limit the expansion of industries, whose production has already exceeded the demand, he said.

Tough measures, including law enforcement and environment monitoring, will be introduced to control the growth of high polluting and energy inefficient industries, he said.

The government will also continue to implement firm measures to stop distorted housing price increases, he said.
