US furniture sales surged 196% in April
Merchants in various industries in the United States were very hot in April this year, with furniture retailers leading the way.
According to monthly data released by the U.S. Census Department, in April this year, furniture store sales surged 196% over the same period last year, reaching $12.3 billion.
Compared with the same period last year, total retail sales in April this year increased by 45.3%, reaching US$555 billion. However, compared with last month, these results are inferior. The total retail sales in March was 556.8 billion US dollars, and the furniture sales were 12.4 billion US dollars.
The world's largest retail trade association, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is full of confidence in the future of the retail industry.
NRF chief economist Jack Kleinhenz analyzed: "Compared with last year, both the economy and consumer spending are rebounding. Now the annual statistics of some categories have skyrocketed, reflecting the fact that those that were still open a year ago and were forced to close gap between retailers."
"Compared with last month, it's like consumers gently stepped on the brakes, but only reduced the speed from 100 yards to 85 yards, unlike last year when they stepped on the brakes to the end."
Kleinhenz added, "The consumer stimulus checks issued in March have greatly boosted consumer spending, and April sales are still very close to the March figures, indicating that consumer spending is clearly still increasing and the momentum is very strong."
