India plans to implement a furniture import license system to restrict furniture imports

According to the media "The Economic Times", the Indian federal government is considering implementing an import license system for the import of products including furniture. Under this system, any furniture of any quality and price must first have a license to enter India. The outside world believes that this is India's attempt to prevent furniture imports with non-tariff means. India has tried to use tariffs to curb imports of products, including furniture, but the results were not good. India’s domestic industries, including furniture, expressed support for the government’s proposal, believing that the country is capable of filling the market share originally occupied by imported products.
