Home furnishings e-commerce company Wayfair has added a 2-D “View in Room” feature to its mobile app that lets shoppers see furniture and décor in their homes before they buy.
The app works with iPhone and Android phones, and the visualization feature also is available on Wayfair’s Joss & Main and AllModern apps.
While Wayfair’s previously announced 3-D virtual reality and augmented reality products are currently limited to a narrow selection of virtual reality headsets and smartphones, the new feature, albeit 2-D, extends visualization across multiple mobile devices and across Wayfair’s more than 6 million products.
Shoppers can use the new feature by clicking a “View in Room” button displayed beneath the product image within Wayfair’s mobile app. The product appears on the device’s screen in camera mode where shoppers can view their digitally furnished space and save an image via screen grab.
“Our newest visualization feature is broadly available to our rapidly growing customer base and offers shoppers the added confidence that they’re making the right furniture and décor selections for their homes,” Wayfair Co-founder and Co-chairman Steve Conine said in a release.
