Russia has published a new document barring Turkish companies from operating in Russia. The ban takes effect from January 1 and prohibits Turkish companies from construction, architecture and design work in Russia. Turks will also not be allowed to work in travel and hospitality.

Turkish companies will not be awarded state and municipal contracts and will not be able to participate in the forestry and timber processing industries, according to Russia Today, the country's state news agency.

The sanctions however do not apply to contracts in place before the enforcement date, or for the duration of those contracts.

The list excludes 53 Turkish companies currently operating in Russia. These companies are engaged in various industries including construction, manufacturing, plumbing and flooring, and the auto industry, according to the Kremlin’s website. 

Relations between Russia and Turkey have continued to deteriorate since a Russian Su-24 jet was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter near the Syrian border in November last year.
