Beijing VS Shanghai, who is the first city of new retail?

Guanghua School of Management of Peking University released the country's first "New Retail City Innovation Index Report" at the end of June this year. Beijing and Shanghai are in the same new retail development.

 

Based on five indicators: production efficiency, circulation efficiency, service efficiency, transaction efficiency, and environmental efficiency, this report ranks the development level of new retail in large cities in China: Shanghai ranks first, Beijing ranks second, Shenzhen and Hangzhou ranked in the 3rd and 4th, among the top four, Shanghai and Beijing are far ahead, the difference between the two cities is only 0.7 points, and the fourth place in Guangzhou and the first place in Shanghai is nearly 8 points.
 
 
Shanghai scored the highest in terms of the logistics efficiency index which reflect urban logistics infrastructure and timeliness and the service efficiency index which reflect the level of urban new business development; this report identified Shanghai as “global shopping new retail” , and believes that Shanghai is China's preferred commercial city to lead international consumption. In the current wave of Internet technology and business integration, Shanghai has once again become the leading bridge of commercial innovation, playing a leading role among the Yangtze River Delta region.
 
 
In terms of the production efficiency index (reflecting the urban big data environment and high-tech talent inflows) and the environmental efficiency index (reflecting the development of urban e-government and the official public attention to retail and consumption), Beijing scored better than Shanghai. In the evaluation of Guanghua School of Management, Beijing is a “technical-driven new retail city”. Compared with Shanghai, its advantage lies in the fact that citizens pay more attention to new retail in the country. The level of cloud computing application is far ahead of the country, and the old-fashioned digital transformation Active, the consumption of imported high-end goods are leading in the country.
 
 
The "New Retail City Innovation Index Report" also found an interesting phenomenon. The Beijing Municipal Government's work report mentioned that "retail" and "consumption" were more frequent than Shanghai.

In the latest version of urban planning, Beijing and Shanghai have further defined their respective positioning: “Beijing Urban Master Plan (2016-2035)”, Beijing's positioning is four centers – National Political Center, Cultural Center, International The Center for Communication and the Center for Science and Technology Innovation, and Shanghai's positioning in Shanghai's Urban Master Plan (2017-2035) is five centers—the international economic, financial, trade, shipping, and technology innovation centers.
 
 
The master plan of the two cities, although not directly referring to retail, does not mean that retail is not important.  Data is the core of the new retail, which aims to improve urban business efficiency and enhance the city’s talents and capital through technological innovation and technological innovation. Attractive, thus gaining a long-term competitive advantage.
