The 2018 Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition opens March 19 at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center

"China has long established itself as a major player in the global manufacturing industry," says Hong Xiaohui, secretary general of Shenzhen Furniture Association. "In 2018 we aim to use the Exhibition as a platform from which we can promote the upgrading of China's design sensibilities and shift the industry's focus from 'Made in China' to 'Created in China.'"

The Exhibition is being held across 9 themed halls spanning 160,000m2, with creativity as a key focus. Highlights include "The Lake," an art installation integrating traditional and contemporary design elements to explore public and ecological welfare; and "Design Pati," an exhibition celebrating China's leading boutique design brands that are pushing boundaries in creative industrial design.

The exhibition also aims to highlight Shenzhen as a growing international hub for design. The "Talents in Shenzhen" exhibition, is showcasing works from an international community of Shenzhen-based graphic designers, craftsmen, lighting designers and artists, using furniture design as a canvas.

"In recent years, Shenzhen has attracted and fostered a lot of top international talent in industrial design, innovation, management and services," says Hong. "This has helped to put the Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition on a fast track to becoming a truly internationalized event."

Pushing the boundaries of design through innovation is another major focus of the 2018 Exhibition. Following the popularity of exhibitions around urban living in 2016 and 2017, a new exhibition, the "International Show of Prefabricated Furnished Houses," will explore ideas around smart and prefabricated living. Top global players including Ikea, Xiaomi, Sekisui House and Braun will present cutting-edge solutions in space economization and smart home technology through dynamic and enjoyable modern living concepts.

Other highlights around innovation include exhibitions on modular container apartments, future furniture materials, and comprehensive Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) service providers in China. Innovative technologies will also be used in customer service, with facial recognition and on-site GPS navigation integrated into delegate services to facilitate an immersive creative experience.

The Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition opens a window to the world for China's industrial design industry, helping to upgrade its offerings for both domestic and international consumers. Unlike other industry exhibitions that are more trade-focused, this exhibition is focused on creativity and pushing the boundaries of innovation in furniture and home design to set global trends for the future, harnessing the influence of China's furniture manufacturing industry to shape the global economy.
