In the midst of a soft climate for mattress sales, the International Sleep Products Assn. has trimmed its forecast for 2016.

The bedding industry’s trade association now sees marginal unit growth this year – a 0.5% increase – and is forecasting 3% growth in the wholesale dollar of bedding shipments.

Those figures are from ISPA’s fall Mattress Industry Forecast, just issued.

ISPA said the modest growth it is now forecasting for 2016 is attributable, in part, to “the lackluster economic growth in the first half of the year as well as the uneven recovery in the housing sector.”

The latest forecast updates the spring 2016 forecast, and it shows how the challenging business conditions this year have impacted bedding’s prospects for 2016.

In the spring forecast, ISPA envisioned 1.5% unit growth this year and 3.5% growth in the wholesale value of bedding shipments.
