Senior bedding executives say a push to reduce government regulation, a step touted by Trump during the recent campaign, would be a positive for the industry.
But they aren’t so sure how trade issues might impact the industry. Given the global nature of the world economy, trade disruptions could have a negative impact in the United States, they said.
The International Sleep Products Assn., which is based in Alexandria, Va., and closely monitors developments in nearby Washington, is watching the developing Trump story closely.
In its initial take on the election, ISPA told its members that in addition to Trump's “stunning victory,” Republicans will continue to control the U.S. House and Senate. Republicans lost seats in both chambers but will still maintain a majority in each, ISPA noted.
Republicans “will work to implement their and Trump's platform over the next two years. Expect action on infrastructure, tax reform and the dismantling of Obamacare,” ISPA said.
In a more detailed election analysis, ISPA said the election results make state regulatory actions involving the mattress industry less likely.
