Canadian Furniture Show Sets Dates Through to 2020

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Organizers of the Canadian Furniture Show have announced the dates for this country’s only national furniture industry event through to 2020.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Organizers of the Canadian Furniture Show have announced the dates for this country’s only national furniture industry event through to 2020.

This year’s edition of CFS will be held from Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 at the International Centre here.

The show will be held on essentially the same weekend for the next five years, with dates of May 27-29, 2017; May 26-28, 2018; May 25-27, 2019; and May 23-25, 2020.

“The industry has told us loud and clear that the Canadian Furniture Show is not a nice-to-have, but a must-have,” Pierre Richard, CFS president and CEO, said in a statement. “In order to allow for multi-year planning, we are pleased to announce the show dates through to 2020.”

The Canadian Furniture Show is owned and operated by the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Association, of which Richard is also president and CEO.

After the end of what was then called The Canadian Home Furnishings Market in 2014, QFMA announced it was launching a three-year plan to revitalize the renamed CFS with a goal of making it more relevant to the industry. The first redesigned and updated trade event was held in 2015.

At the conclusion of this year’s event, Richard said the decline in both attendance and the number of exhibitors had stopped, and was trending back towards growth.

Richard said the association had no plans to cancel the show and the event — which is also one of the oldest and largest trade events currently held in Canada — will continue beyond the third year of the original revitalization plan.

“I assure you that our team and the board of directors is fully committed to the success of the Canadian Furniture Show and that we will continue to deploy the necessary efforts to ensure the show’s success and sustainability for years to come,” Richard said, adding that’s why it was important to announce the show dates through 2020 at this time.

It also means the Montreal-based association will continue to make improvements and changes to the event.

“In today’s changing world, stagnation is a recipe for failure,” Richard said. “That is why we will continue to evolve the show by listening to our participants’ wants and needs and by adapting the best practices of the trade show world to our reality.”

The QFMA also said that, for the foreseeable future, the show will continue to be held at the International Centre.
