Ikea to open store in Memphis, Tenn.

Ikea will open a store here, the Swedish retailer confirmed in a press release late Monday, the Tennessean.com website reported.

Details of the store’s location, size and opening date will be announced at a press conference at 11 a.m. today, the release said.

 

“The proposed Ikea Memphis would be the first Ikea store in either Tennessee, Arkansas or Mississippi,” the company said in the release.

 

The closest Ikea stores are in Dallas, Kansas City, Cincinnati and Atlanta, with a St. Louis store scheduled to open by next fall.

 

Ikea ranks No. 2 on Furniture/Today’s list of the Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores, with U.S. furniture, bedding and accessories sales of $2.7 billion in its fiscal year ended Aug. 31, 2013, and total revenue of $4.4 billion.
