Tsar Carpets has collaborated with designer Michelle Macarounas to produce Tæpper, a collection of rugs with monochrome geometric patterns.

In designing the Tæpper rugs, Macarounas took inspiration from modernism and mid-20th century art, particularly the mobile sculptures of Alexander Calder.

The Tæpper rugs feature geometric designs in monochrome colours

Macarounas, the founder of Sydney interiors practice Infinite Design Studio, came up with the idea for Tæpper and took the project to Tsar Carpets.

The Melbourne brand's in-house design team gave the rugs their sense of three-dimensionality by working in subtle changes to the pile density and fibres.

"The goal was to create stylish area rugs that felt more like pieces of art and infuse an eclectic sensibility to any interior space," said Macarounas.

One of the designs is called Monokromatisk, which translates to "Monochromatic" in Danish

"We brought Michelle's vision to life by designing and then meticulously translating each graphic pattern into artistic area rugs teeming with alluring colourways, subtle textures and optimal pile height," added Tsar Catpets senior designer Teresa Cerebek.

The hand-tufted rugs come in four monochrome designs

The Tæpper rugs are available in four monochrome designs: Lyserød ("Pink" in Danish), Monokromatisk ("Monochromatic"), Grøn ("Green") and Fløde ("Cream").

Each rug is hand-tufted from the finest grade of New Zealand wool, making it durable and soft.
