Ashley Furniture Industries is closing its manufacturing facilities here and has told employees the plant will close in 60 days. In a statement released to employees, the company explained that “rebalancing our manufacturing mix strengthens production capability and cost structure and will help ensure Ashley’s continued ability to compete effectively long-term in the global marketplace from a U.S. base.”

The bedding and upholstery production from the facility will be absorbed by its other manufacturing facilities. Approximately 840 employees were given notice and, according to the company, will be paid according to their regular schedule and receive benefits during the 60 days following the date on which they received notification under California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

Employees at the Ashley distribution centers in Colton and nearby Redlands, where employment has grown in recent years, are not affected by this announcement.
