H&M has launched a new charitable campaign designed to support needy children and families in time for the back-to-school/college season.

Via the new “Buy Home, Give Home” program, shoppers can give back with home purchases made at U.S. H&M locations carrying the line and through hm.com. For every H&M Home item purchased Aug. 4-18, the retailer will donate an item to families in need -- up to $165,000 worth of household products.

The donation is made to H&M’s non-profit partner, K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers, a charity that provides new merchandise to at-risk children, families, and individuals through a network of more than 1,000 U.S. community partners.

“Families in need have limited budgets that usually must be spent on essential items like food, rent or clothes. These donated items will allow them to add some touches of flair and personality to their homes, without having to choose between daily needs and a little comforting style,” said Lisa Gurwitch, president and CEO, K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers.

Key home items in-store and online now include décor essentials “for the dorm and beyond,” H&M noted. Bedding comes in various colors of fitted sheets made of 100% cotton or linen and available in twin and full sizes, as well as velvet cushion covers. For the bath, there are woven cotton body and hand towel sets. Decorative items include rugs as well as picture frames, mirrors and storage items.

The collection ranges in price from $5.99 to $79.99.

In conjunction with the campaign, H&M will be offering a 20% in-store student discount on all home items with the presentation of a valid student ID.
