Singapore furniture brand Commune plans to open 100 stores in China

The company expects this year' s sales in Singapore and China will usher in double-digit growth.

Recently, Joshua Koh, CEO of Commune, a Singapore-based furniture retail brand, said in an interview that the company plans to operate 100 stores in China by 2022, and more than 10 stores will open in August alone.

Commune is a subsidiary of Singapore' s listed furniture manufacturer KODA Group. KODA Group was founded in 1972 by Koh Teng Kwee.

KODA was originally a workshop that produced wooden cabinets, but then turned to design and manufacture furniture. Today, it exports furniture to approximately 30 countries in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe.

It launched Commune, a retail company, in 2011. KODA' s brands have 85 stores in markets such as China, Singapore and Malaysia, most of which are Commune dealerships.

Koda CEO James Koh is a member of Koda’ s founding family. He believes that Koda’ s retail business has “huge potential” because of its low capital expenditure, and efforts to diversify through the sofa series will be another promising one growth areas.

Commune, a retail subsidiary, is led by Joshua Koh, the third generation member of the family.

With the recurrence of the global epidemic, which has severely affected the supply chain, Commune has begun to purchase furniture from China, which is less affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, and increase its influence in China.

Commune plans to have 100 stores in China by 2022, which will increase by 33% over the current 75 stores. If all goes well, more than 10 stores will open this August. In addition, it is preparing to open a flagship store in Shanghai before the end of the year.
