konstantin grcic's mingx collection for driade draws on ancient chinese furniture design

The ‘mingx’ collection by konstantin grcic for driade consists of a family of minimal furniture pieces which draw on ancient chinese culture. The name ‘mingx’ refers to the ming dynasty that influenced the progress of china, turning it into the heart of eastern trade.

Presented at salone del mobile 2016, the armchairs hold a curved wave-like backrest that creates a sense of motion across the static object, accompanied by leather seats produced in the same hues as the metal frame. the seating collection also consists of stools proposed in two variants, with and without a backrest.

The seats are intentionally inspired by the archetype of the ancient chinese chair, which was originally in wood. grcic builds upon this framework to create an extensive series of designs, including: seats, stools and tables rendered using a thin tubular metal frame.
