Dates are set for the second edition of Design Shanghai, which will take place from 27-30th March 2015 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, following a major launch in February.

With more than 47,000 visitors to the inaugural show in 2014, Design Shanghai was the most successful design trade event launched in China to date. To build on its immense success, 2015 will see the show double in size, occupying a large space of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre to accommodate 60,000 expected visitors in March. Jaguar Land Rover will return as the headline sponsor of Design Shanghai in 2015.

The show will feature more than 300 exhibitors across the three halls: Contemporary Design, Classic Design and Collectible Design. World-renowned design brands have confirmed their presence, including Moroso, Foscarini, Vitra, Seletti, Ibride, HAY and Fritz Hansen. In addition to showcasing some of the world’s most celebrated designers and manufacturers, interactive features alongside a seminar programme led by acclaimed architects and designers will be presented, whilst cafes and a champagne bar will cater for visitors.

Among the confirmed installations is Bally’s Jean Prouvé 6x9 house. The house by the famous mid-century architect will be furnished with Pierre Jeanneret’s iconic furniture, as well as the work of a promising young Chinese artist, selected by Jérôme Sans. After exhibiting elements at Art Basel and Miami, Bally’s travelling installation will be finally brought together in its entirety and make its way to Design Shanghai 2015.

The design industry in China grew by 11% in 2013, with revenue totalling £76 billion in Shanghai, which was awarded a UNESCO City of Design in 2010. It is projected that China will have built 10 new cities - each the size of New York - by 2025, securing the region as an exciting place for those within the design community.

Mike Dynan, co-founder of Media 10 Ltd and event director of Design Shanghai, says: “We were unbelievably happy with the response Design Shanghai received when it first opened its doors in 2014. The overwhelming success of the show proves that there is a huge appetite in China for quality international design.

“Next year’s show will act as a platform to showcase the world’s most successful design brands to this incredible marketplace, while also promoting Chinese designers, makers and creative talents in what we aspire to become a world leading design event, opening the world’s eyes to see the possibilities and potentials of the design industry in China.”

Infrastructure co-founders, former Liberty and Lane Crawford director Ross Urwin, and Darrel Best, former brand director of Kelly Hoppen Interiors, both return as creative directors of Design Shanghai. They commented: “It’s an exciting time to witness and experience the passion, vision and innovation of the Chinese population as it embraces international design. Infrastructure is proud to be involved with Design Shanghai as a fundamental platform that enables local and international brands to be exposed to new concepts and explore a mutual understanding of excellent design.”

Design Shanghai marks the announcement of the 2015 show with the launch of its new creative. Design Shanghai’s emblem is a lucky and powerful symbol in China, the dragon, which is comprised of a selection of the world's most iconic furniture designs from international brands. The items that form the dragon will be showcased in each of the three halls at Design Shanghai in March 2015 and include designs by Foscarini, Angus Ross, Studio Silverlining, Villiers Brothers, Paere Dansk, Paul Kelley and Moroso, amongst others.

Visitors to Design Shanghai will have the chance to see one of John C Taylor’s one-off Chronophages in person at the Collectible Design hall in March, featuring a special dragon escapement.

Design Shanghai is organised by Media 10 Limited and supported by the Shanghai Promotion Centre for City of Design and Shanghai Design Week.
