Bedding Barometer: US mattress sales see healthy growth in June

The International Sleep Products Association‘s June Bedding Barometer (pay wall) reports that unit sales of mattresses and foundations increased 3.5% in June, as compared with unit sales in the same month of 2013.

 

The International Sleep Products Association‘s June Bedding Barometer (pay wall) reports that unit sales of mattresses and foundations increased 3.5% in June, as compared with unit sales in the same month of 2013. The wholesale dollar value of mattresses and foundations grew 7.7%, as compared with June 2013. The average unit selling price increased 4%, as compared with the same month in 2013. Year-to-date unit sales and the wholesale dollar value increased 0.7% and 4.4%, respectively, as compared with the prior-year period. Year-to-date AUP increased 3.7%.

 

Second-quarter sales results show that mattress and foundation unit shipments and wholesale revenues increased by 0.9% and 5.1%, respectively, as compared with second-quarter 2013. AUP increased 4.1% compared with the prior-year quarter. The June Bedding Barometer also contains innerspring and non-innerspring mattress data for the second quarter.

 

The ISPA Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity, including Puerto Rico, for 14 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 70.1% of the mattress units shipped and 78.2% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2013. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of work days and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
