China consumer prices up 2.5 pct in May

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, increased 2.5 percent year on year in May, up from 1.8 percent in the previous month, official data showed on Tuesday.

China's producer price index (PPI) contracted 1.4 percent year on year in May, following a 2-percent decline in April, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Tuesday.
