The World Federation of Antimicrobial Industry (WFAI) is composed of the Zhongguancun Huizhi Antimicrobial New Material Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association Antimicrobial Industry Branch (English abbreviation: CIAA), Japan Antimicrobial Products Technology Association (English abbreviation: SIAA) and Korea Antibacterial Products Technology Association (English abbreviation: KIAA) co-sponsored, officially registered in Tokyo, Japan on July 1, 2020.

According to the inquiry, as early as March 12, 2015, CIAA, SIAA and KIAA held a press conference in Shanghai jointly initiated by China, Japan and South Korea to establish an international antibacterial industry organization and a roundtable forum on technological innovation and industrial development of antibacterial home appliances. The information that China, Japan and South Korea jointly initiated the preparation of an international antibacterial industry organization.

According to the introduction of Dr. Li Bizhong, head of the CIAA International Affairs Working Group, the motion for the establishment of an international antibacterial industry organization was proposed as early as 2011. CIAA, SIAA and KIAA started formal talks in 2014 on the joint preparation of an international antibacterial industry organization. In the following six years, CIAA, SIAA and KIAA have reached a consensus on jointly forming WFAI after more than ten rounds of talks. On July 1, 2020, WFAI completed the registration in Tokyo, Japan, and an international industry organization for the antimicrobial industry was born.
