Marketing firm CNA|SOPHIS identified Ikea as the most mobile friendly home furnishings retailer out of more than 100 retailers tested.

AICO took the top spot for furniture manufacturers, and Saatva led bedding brands.

The rankings were based on mobile tests conducted by the integrated marketing for retailers, suppliers and bedding brands and bedding retailers (the latter to come). The firm is only releasing the top three companies in each field after testing companies in three areas: mobile friendliness, mobile speed and desktop speed.

Ikea led all 103 furniture retailer tested for a 267 score and was followed by Waukesha, Wis.-based Steinhafels (264 score) and Miami Gardens, Fla.-based El Dorado Furniture (263).

CNA|SOPHIS considered a score of 292 or higher “excellent,” 285-291 “superior,” 276-284 “very good” and 255-275 “good,” which means all three retailers fell in the good range.

In the Top Home Furnishings Manufacturer Brands category, AICO led the 77 companies with a score of 295 — the only company ranked as “excellent.” Palliser Furniture and Aspenhome tied for No. 2 with a 288 “superior” score.

In the bedding brands category (29 brands tested), the leader was Saatva, with a 263 “good” score, followed by Kingsdown (255) and BedInABox (247).

The top three mobile-friendly bedding retailers, out of 25 tested, will be announced Wednesday. Check back for an updated version of this story.

Lance Hanish, co-founding partner of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based CNA|SOPHIS, said the tests were conducted over a four-week period, and then the companies were retested for another week.

The mobile friendliness rating included consideration for things such as avoidance of plugins, size of content to the viewports, use of legible font sizes and appropriate size of tap targets. Mobile and desktop speed ratings had a 10-point checklist for things such as for avoiding landing page redirects and image optimization.

Hanish noted that desktop speed ratings were included in the rankings because laptops are considered “mobile desktops, and this is an important part of what is mobile today.”
