GE and Samsung have unveiled appliances this week that do some of your thinking for you, fueling the growth of the smart, connected kitchen.
New Samsung built-in kitchen appliances have Wi-Fi connectivity.
GE Appliances has launched Wi-Fi connected dishwashers integrated with Amazon’s Dash Replenishment Service, which enables it to automatically re-order dish detergent pods when supplies run low.
Homeowners can set up Dash Replenishment through the GE Kitchen app using their Amazon account and select the dish detergent pods they want to automatically reorder. During setup, they can enter how many dish detergent pods they currently have. The connected dishwasher will measure how many pods are used by counting wash cycles. When supplies are low, the dishwasher will use Dash Replenishment to reorder the product selected. Through the app, one can take control of the reorder process if they wish by setting a specific reorder level.
“We know that families are using Dash Replenishment to simplify their lives, and we believe that this is one of the many ways our dishwashers will take the chore out of kitchen cleanup,” said Cynthia Fanning, vice president of dishwasher products at GE Appliances. Earlier this year, GE Appliances launched Dash Replenishment with laundry products.
Competitor Samsung, meanwhile, has entered the built-in cooking appliance market with a lineup equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, which enables consumers to remotely start, control and turn off their oven as well as monitor the cooktop and range hood from a smartphone. The new line is capable of working with the Samsung SmartThings Hub as part of the connected home.
The new assortment includes double- and single-wall ovens with steam cook technology. It is also offering FlexDuo technology in select built-in ovens that can cook two different dishes at different temperatures simultaneously within the same oven compartment. There is also a new built-in gas cooktop and range hood.
