Cutting-edge stylings and innovative construction are the hallmarks of the textiles on display at NY Now, which opened at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here yesterday.

Among the more dramatic looks on display was that of the Coral Design area rug from Amazing Rugs, made with soft touch-pile microfiber, with a look of paint splatters in red on a background combining several shades of gray, including charcoal. Another striking design could be seen on the Bohemian decorative pillow from Aandaz, which features an embroidered medallion in the center, surrounded by embroidered geometric shapes in orange and gray. A variety of colors is used on the Life is Tangy area rug from Eliko Antique & Decorative Rugs, with a design of interlocked shapes on watercolor-style painted ground.

An example of unique construction is the Glam French Pinafore, a linen apron with pockets made of gold-colored pieces, from Allem Studio. The Chubby Cubby, a 17-ounce pocket bag from See Design, has a multitude of pockets for carrying tools, art supplies, baby supplies, water bottles and other necessities.

In the furniture category, among the most innovative products at the show is the Table-Art from Mark Watts Studios. This aluminum table has a top into which framed wall art can be inserted interchangeably, to suit a person’s mood at the moment.
