Califolio has American Modern design elements and includes 37 wood pieces, 17 pieces of upholstery and 24 lighting, mirror and accessory pieces.
Officials described the collection as having clean lines, modern shapes, softly tailored upholstery and well scaled occasional pieces that are “accompanied by unique finishes and a color palette which communicates the light airy style of southern California living.”
“Drawing on themes that are synonymous with the spirit and design of urban coastal living; from the everyday access to beaches, mountains, deserts and city dwelling, I have assembled a diverse combination of designs and original finishes,” Berman said. “Michael Berman for Theodore Alexander is the essence of the aspirational casual living we have here on the Pacific coast. It conjures up imagery of indoor-outdoor living and the restraint of ornamentation and the eclectic use of materials and finishes in California.”
“To dress the collection, we’ve selected lush textiles that cool the skin, warm the heart and dazzle the eyes,” he added.
Officials said that pricing is in line with other collections by Theodore Alexander.
There are two main beds, the Brougham bed, which has a horizontally tufted headboard and a mahogany frame with upholstered rails and footboard and bronze finished steel legs; and the Eden bed, a fully upholstered bed with a solid oak base in a sandalwood finish.
Two key dining tables are the 48-inch-square Rialto breakfast table made with solid oak and quartered oak veneer in a sandalwood finish and featuring a brass line inlaid top and brass feet; and the 84-inch by 45-inch Hermosa table, which has a figured marble top with a beveled apron and a steel base in a foundry finish.
Other signature items include the Collins dresser made with solid oak, the Balboa bookcase featuring ultra-suede, oak veneers and lacquer finishes and the Flint dining table, which Berman said brings an “organic element to the line.”
“Each piece is designed to be used individually or in a suite of furnishings. There is a thread that runs through this collection that incorporates my modernist influence and credo: restraint, quiet luxury and effortless comfort,” said Berman.
TA USA President Jeremy Hoff said, “We’re thrilled to partner with Michael Berman, a designer whose meticulous approach and unparalleled style will be an asset to Theodore Alexander.”
