NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Jordan’s Furniture will take its store entertainment attraction to new heights — and lengths — when it opens its newest store here with a vast IT Adventure Ropes Course.

Jordan’s is devoting 20,000 square feet to the feature — the largest entertainment area in any of its stores for what the retailer said will be the world's largest indoor ropes adventure course. It will include two 60-foot high ropes courses with more than 100 activities, including zig zag swinging beams, crisscross angle rope ladders, cargo nets, bridges, plank-walking, a cat walk and a 48-foot high free-fall jump, the retailer said.

There will be four 200-foot zip lines that are 48 feet high — the longest SkyRails ever made, according to the company. Course patrons will be able to zip over the 1,000-nozzle water show with choreographed lights, sound and music. The light and sound components are being created by Clair Solutions, the company that designed Radio City Music Hall, The Grand Ol Opry and the Michael Jackson Tour.

Taunton, Mass.-based Jordan’s, part of the Top 100 Berkshire Hathaway’s furniture division, announced plans for a 192,500-square-foot store here — its first in Connecticut — in May in the former New Haven Register building at 40 Sargent Dr. The showroom, its sixth, is set to open in December.

Jordan’s President and CEO Eliot Tatelman announced the Ropes Course plans at a press conference this morning at the construction site, and played on its name in his press release statement:

“Be prepared to be wowed,” he said “You’ll want to see IT. Climb IT. Ride IT. Experience IT. Just don’t miss IT because you won’t believe IT!” he said.

In addition to the two ropes courses, there will be four other activities: Leap of Faith, where participants climb to the top of the pole and jump; Astroball, with the balls stacked for a challenging climb; Stairway to Heaven, a rising walk across wobbly poles; and Twister, inviting people to climb to the top of a double sided, twisted structure.

For children less than 48 inches tall, Jordan’s will have a smaller version of the ropes course and parents will be able to walk alongside or watch. Visitors can also enjoy pizza from Blaze Pizza and 50 flavors of Richardson Farms ice cream from Scoop It.

Jordan’s, with stores in Reading, Natick, and Avon Mass., Nashua, N.H., and Warwick, Rhode Island, is known for its “shoppertainment” features in its stores, including IMAX Theaters, laser water shows, a “Bean Town” jellybean city, its Motion Odyssey Movie ride and another ropes course in its Reading store.
