Ikea will announce plans this morning for its second Ohio store here.

In a media alert, the Top 100 company offered few immediate details, but said the store would be its first in central Ohio, complementing its Cincinnati-area store, which opened in West Chester, Ohio, in 2008.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the proposed store would open in 2017. It would be 354,000 square feet — slightly larger than the Cincinnati store — and located on Polaris Parkway, east of Interstate 71. The newspaper said two Columbus city officials and a local developer confirmed the plans.

Ikea operates 40 U.S. stores and more than 360 stores worldwide.

“Columbus is a great fit for Ikea demographically,” Columbus-area retail analyst Chris Boring told The Dispatch. “We’re constantly pumping out college graduates who need relatively cheap home furnishings.

“The apartment rental market has been doing well lately in Columbus, too. That’s another good sign for Ikea.”
