Tel Aviv-based architect Simon Barazin officially presents the F04 table-bench, a 175 cm-long functional object d’art that both blends into its environment and affects its surroundings.

The F04 is constructed with treated plexiglass, known for its light transmission capabilities, resulting in an optical illusion brought on by reflection and refraction of colourful schemes in any given direction.

Light and physical space find a mutual home in this table-bench.

After an extensive research process with graphic designers Tal Baltuch and Tom Melnick, the architect settled on the translucent panes for their promising durability and refractive materiality. The furniture piece is highly reactive to varying lighting conditions, transforming its artistic qualities amongst the numerous environments it will be housed from home dwellings, to apartments, offices and commercial spaces.

“Furniture, according to the French theorist Baudrillard, simultaneously serves as objects of use and objects of desire,” says Barazin. “This duality evokes emotional aspirations of ownership and collectivity inside all of us. The F04 table-bench was envisioned to spark conversation with its visitors from its dazzling visual effects.

The geometry of the F04 allows its dual functionality as both a bench and a table. Its unique T-joints provide structured support and hide all binding elements from an external view.

The sleek body and material construction create the mystery of illusion, causing viewers to question whether the furniture piece is real or a computer simulation. The emphasis on linear geometries and perpendicular edges cast bold shadows upon its placed environment, creating an emotional technicolour paradise.
