Note Design Studio and Gunilla Allard took inspiration from the modernist yet eclectic Eames House in California to create their Sunny seating for Swedish brand Lammhults.
An easy chair that's also available as a modular two-seater, Sunny has a powder-coated or chromed steel frame, draped with a plush cushion.
Allard and Note Design Studio looked to the scale and architectural style of the Eames House – completed in 1949 by Charles and Ray Eames – as well as the characterful interior details, as a reference for their design.
The result is an easy chair intended to create a relaxing and inviting mood in social spaces such as hotel lobbies and workplace meeting spots.
"The task was to make soft lounge seating — a little lower, a little softer, a little more relaxed, a little cooler, a little dreamier and a cross-border between public and private," said the designers.
Sunny comes as either a freestanding easy chair, with optional armrests and casters, or a modular two-seater linked via a U-shaped foot.
The modular version can also be joined with either a straight or wedge-shaped connecting table, allowing the chairs to curve towards or away from each other.
Sunny is one of three new seating designs Lammhults is launching to coincide with the opening of its revamped Stockholm showroom, which was renovated by Atelier Paul Vaugoyeau.
The products will feature in a new installation called Space Matters, which sees a series of curated, flexible, interactive room sets inserted into the showroom.
Like all of Lammhults' new products, Sunny is designed with circularity in mind, and can be easily taken apart so that components can be replaced or recycled.
