Matress Firm volunteers join Carlos Correa andSimmons Bedding for Houston Children's Charity "A Better Night's Sleep" program.

Mattress Firm recently hosted Houston Astros star shortstop Carlos Correa and Simmons Bedding Company LLC at the company’s headquarters for an event supporting Houston Children’s Charity’s “A Better Night’s Sleep” program. Correa and representatives from Houston Children’s Charity, Mattress Firm, and Simmons distributed 500 mattresses, bed frames, sheet sets and pillows to children in need.

“God blessed me with talent to play the game and the good fortune to make it to the Major Leagues. That has given me the opportunity to bring awareness to an issue that is very close to my heart,” said Correa. “Every child deserves a good night’s sleep, and I am proud to partner with Houston Children’s Charity, Mattress Firm and Simmons Bedding Company to make that possible for these Houston families today.”

Since 2007, the Houston Children’s Charity's “A Better Night’s Sleep” program has provided sleep essentials to children in need throughout the greater Houston area. Earlier this year, Correa – the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year – announced his personal “Restless for the Cause” commitment to raise sufficient funds to acquire 2,000 beds for Houston Children’s Charity.

“Carlos’ ultimate goal is to eliminate the actual wait list of children in our community in need of a bed. That would be the first time in the history of this program that there will be no child waiting for a bed,” said Laura Ward, executive director of Houston Children’s Charity.

Simmons donated the 500 mattresses for the event. “We are delighted to contribute to the Houston Children’s Charity initiative focused on A Better Night’s Sleep,” said Michelle Montgomery, Simmons’ vice president of marketing communications. “We believe everyone deserves to get a good night’s sleep, in order to live their best lives every day. With these donated beds, and by the generosity of both Mattress Firm and Correa’s ‘Restless for the Cause’ initiative, we’re collectively helping to improve the lives of local Houston children.”

Mattress Firm donated bed frames, sheet sets and pillows to the children in attendance. “Serving the communities where we live and work is a central part of how we do business,” said Mattress Firm President and CEO Ken Murphy. “We’re excited to have joined Carlos and Houston Children’s Charity in their mission to help our hometown get the quality sleep they deserve.”
