China surpasses the U.S. as the largest foreign capital inflow country for the first time
China's FDI bucked the trend and grew by 4% to reach 163 billion US dollars, surpassing the United States for the first time as the world's largest foreign inflow country.
The Global Investment Trends Monitoring Report recently released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development shows that affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, global foreign direct investment (FDI) totaled approximately US$859 billion in 2020, a 42% decrease compared with 2019.
However, China's FDI bucked the trend and grew by 4% to reach 163 billion US dollars, surpassing the United States for the first time as the world's largest foreign inflow country.
The report shows that last year's foreign investment in the United States reached 134 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of 49% from the previous year, and the foreign capital inflows into Europe dropped from 344 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 to 4 billion U.S. dollars.
