General Administration of Customs, P.R. China: Furniture exports in the first eight months of 2019 totaled RMB240 billion

up 8.1% year on year

According to the customs statistics, the total import and export value of China's trade in goods in the first 8 months of this year was RMB20.13 trillion, an increase of 3.6% over the same period of last year (similarly hereinafter). Of this total, the export volume of furniture and parts reached RMB29.71 billion in August, and the cumulative export volume from January to August is RMB239.96 billion, up 8.1% year on year, down 0.7% from the previous month.

 

In the first eight months, seven categories of labor-intensive products, including textiles and furniture, total RMB2.13 trillion, an increase of 7.38%, accounting for 19.4% of China's total export value.

 

From January to August, the cumulative export value of furniture, lamps and lanterns, lighting devices and parts, ceramic products and textile articles related products in four kinds of household industries is RMB1.03237 trillion. In addition to ceramic products, the cumulative export growth of furniture, textiles, lamps and lanterns lighting products has fallen.

 

Overall, from January to August 2019, the total value of China's foreign trade import and export reached RMB20.13 trillion, up 3.6% over the same period last year. Among which, the export value is RMB10.95 trillion, increased by 6.1%; the import value is RMB9.18 trillion, increased by 0.8%; the trade surplus is RMB1.77 trillion with an increase of 46%.

 

In August, China's total import and export value is RMB2.72 trillion, an increase of 0.1%. Among which, the export value is RMB1.48 trillion, increased by 2.6%; imports total RMB1.24 trillion, down 2.6%; and the trade surplus is RMB239.6 billion, an increase of 41.8%. China's foreign trade has maintained a steady growth.

 

From the regional perspective, China's imports and exports to the EU, ASEAN, Japan and other major markets have increased.

 

In terms of Sino-US trade, the total value of China and the United State (China's third largest trading partner) is RMB2.42 trillion, down 9%, accounting for 12% of China's total import and export value.

 

Of this total, exports to the United States total RMB1.88 trillion, down 3.7% year on year; imports from the United States reached RMB545.01 billion, with a decrease of 23.5% year on year; and the trade surplus was RMB1.33 trillion with an increase of 7.7%.

 

The import and export of private enterprises have been growing rapidly with an increasingly proportion.

 

In the first eight months of this year, the import and export value of China's private enterprises totals RMB8.49 trillion, up 11.2%, accounting for 42.2% of the country's total value of imports and exports, up 2.9% over the same period last year.

 

Among them, exports total RMB5.61 trillion, an increase of 13.7%, accounting for 51.2% of China's total export value; Imports total RMB2.88 trillion, up 6.6%, accounting for 31.3% of China's total imports. Imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises have declined.

 

Exports of mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products all maintained growth.

 

In the first eight months, China's exports of mechanical and electrical products total RMB6.34 trillion, an increase of 5.6%, accounting for 57.9% of the total export value.

 

The total export value of labor-intensive products such as clothing, textile, furniture, footwear, plastic products, luggage and toys reached RMB2.13 trillion, an increase of 7.3%, accounting for 19.4% of the gross export value. Of this total, furniture exports total RMB239.96 billion, an increase of 8.1%.
