On April 17, National Bureau of Statistics released economic data for the first quarter of the year, in which GDP grew by 6.4 percent on year-on-year basis in the first quarter, equal to the data in the fourth quarter of 2018. Retail sales of furniture related to home furnishing increased by 5% on year-on-year basis, with a high year-on-year growth of 12.8% in a single month.

According to the data of the first quarter, the retail sales of furniture category reached RMB41.4 billion, rising by 5% on year-on-year basis. Retail sales of household appliances category totaled RMB228 million, rising by 7.8 percent on year-on-year basis. Retail sales of building materials category totaled RMB42 billion, rising by 8.1 percent on year-on-year basis. Retail sales of knitted fabric category totaled RMB342.3 billion, rising by 3.3 percent on year-on-year basis.

Among the highest monthly increases, the growth of furniture and household appliances reached 12.8% and 15.2% on year-on-year basis in March.
