In recent 10 years, the total timber consumption in China has increased to 600,000,000 m3 in 2017 from 380,000,000 m3 in 2007, with the annual average increase of 4.67%. Due to the national “custom furniture” wave caused by consumption upgrading as well as the wood products as the low-carbon, green and the only reproducible home products, timber has become the preferred materials for the Chinese consumers to customize the furniture again. It is estimated that the custom furniture will maintain the growth rate above 20%, and it is estimated that the market scale will reach RMB 160.6 billion by 2020 and it will certainly drive the development of timber industry.

Currently, China has stopped the commercial clear cutting of the natural forests comprehensively, and the supply of the domestic commercial timbers has decreased. The imported timbers have become the main source for production of China’s timber industry. The timbers from Russia, the US, New Zealand and Canada have accounted for 64.3% of total imported timbers in China, and Russian timber has accounted for 30.8% of total imported timbers in China. As the policy “Belt and Road” is upgraded, China will continuously increase the overseas investment in the timbers.
