Chen Baoguang, Vice Chairman of China National Furniture Association
I. The position of wooden furniture in China
China is a country where the wood culture is advocated, and the use of wood has had a long history in China and also has had the cases of wide application; therefore, the Chinese people have far more loved the wooden furniture than the people in other countries, and the wooden furniture has had the great influence in China.
II. Design in China
Chinese furniture design gradually developed in the forty years of the reform and opening up at the earliest, and later the most of the Chinese furniture designs referred to the European and American design and continued to follow the ancient Chinese furniture design. Now, Chinese enterprises have been more and more tended to purchase design so it has been very general that the foreign designers have got a job in China’s furniture industry.
Because of design and development risk of furniture products in China is very large. First, in case of bad development of the original products, the cost of capitals will be unable to be recovered, and time cost, i.e., opportunity cost will be lost. Second, the plagiarism is serious, and the market competition is severe.
III. 4 characteristics in China’s furniture industry
1) Mixture and coexistence of traditional manufacturing and modern manufacturing.
2) Coexistence of the world largest production scale and the most dispersive production scale.
3) Coexistence of the most common daily necessities and the most important cultural categories: in China, furniture can be both daily necessities and the collections.
4) Coexistence of the largest furniture stores and the smallest manufacturers.
IV. Trend of the future Chinese furniture
Development trend of the future Chinese furniture is mainly reflected as follows:
First, Chinese consumers have gradually shifted to concerning the style from concerning the furniture materials;
Second, exhibition has become the main pusher of Chinese furniture design development;
Third, due to the personalized demand, the integrated customized home has developed rapidly in recent years;
Additionally, the safe, green and environment-friendly furniture will be more popular.
Finally, in the links of production and sales, Internet+ has brought the traditional processing and manufacturing enterprises to enter a Chinese-style modern industrial system.
